-
DO NOT TALK TO THE COPS

WHO ever you are , and WHERE ever you are, say ONLY these 5 words to police if taken into custody -
" I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY"
Remember these five words.
This will save you in many cases.
" I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY"
You can be held for what seems like days and possibly be (physically and mentally) abused by the cops, but DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM other than,
" I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY"
even if they stop at your door and ask questions, DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS,
" I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY"
The police have stolen from my personal belongings in the past and I wonder if those items will appear in a future crime scene!

BEYOND 1987-03-13 Friday the 13th at Ildiko's (live audience recording)

originally posted Saturday, December 3, 2011

I DON'T HAVE THE FLYER OF THIS GIG ANYMORE AND HAVE NOT SEEN IT UPLOADED.
I PUT OFF SHARING THIS GIG FOR AWHILE, BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND THE FLYER, BUT THAT ISN'T YOUR FAULT, UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FUCKER.
IF YOU DO, THEN UPLOAD IT AND SHARE IT !

Beyond (Bramalea,ON) 1987-03-13 Friday the 13th of March at Ildiko's (The Bridge,Toronto)

The sound is not too hot, there was a loud buzzing through the PA due to the fluorescent lights / spotlights used, interfering with the guitar pickup's.

Paul Garvey - vocals/guitar
Shaun Garvey - Bass
? Sean Wisener - drums

I always thought it was Razor's drummer Rob Mills, but when I met him briefly when he was unloading gear at the GTS 4 gig, he said he briefly jammed with them, but didn't record the "Inner World" demo, ( and maybe didn't play any gigs either? )

Recorded on a SONY mono recorder, in front of the PA on the audience's right side, most of the patrons were seated on the left side.
Nobody was in the pit, nobody standing up front.
Everybody was sitting down at tables and drinking / watching this gig.
Less than one hundred people, maybe 50 patrons.

the voice you hear speaking briefly for a second or two between songs near my walkman is either James C. or John C. of Malhavoc.

There was a guest singer on the Sodom cover, Steve Donnell (sp?), the super-longhaired singer from the Brampton speedcore band DISTORTION.

01.Tight Ass
02.Awaken To Dream
03.Beyond The Mind
04.Man of Morals
05.Sepulchural Voice (SODOM cover)

The guest singer's name is Steve Donohoe. Me, Steve, and Jason Flood formed a band in 84/85 called TNT (Thermo Nuclear Threat). I had left by 86 and Paul Garvey took over as guitar player, shortly after that, the band evolved into "Beyond". Jason Flood went to a band called "Curious Mold"

ah, they don't have the tape uploaded I used go have, copied for me by Dave Busch.
Had a ton of great songs ,like "Bus Stop Cruising" (ripping off Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" riff), and "My Car is a piece of shit"!

The sound is hissy. Only real demo freaks and diehard Beyond fans will want it ,when they had that early Sodom influence in their sound.

This blog originally was going to be just for hardcore punk, and metal, bands from the Toronto area that played in the thrash style.

NOW, it's for anything I like, but will attempt to limit it to hard rock, hc, heavy metal that is Canadian.

and on that note, I wish I had Lee Aaron when she did the City-TV live concert with Frank Soda in the early 1980s.
Anybody seen a copy floating around?

Beyond (Can) 1987 Inner World Demo

no demo cover was made for this, as far as I know, and that's how it was traded by mail.

Beyond (Can) 1987 Inner World Demo @VBR

2.Flame Of Understanding
3.Quest Through Paradox
4.Introverted Cry
5.Man Of Morals
6.Strength In Numbers

Produced by Brian Taylor on a very small budget (it might have $100 or $200).
Paul Garvey -vocals-guitar
Shaun Garvey -bass (no relation)
Rob Mills -drums (later joined Razor)

Was not sold as far as I know, as they were not happy with it.

EDIT:
I just remembered. It has been ringing in my head since I did this post.
Brian said something like, 'They didn't spend much money, they couldn't afford studio time, and only spent $60'.
I'll have to ask Paul Garvey about that next time I talk to him (whenever that will be, who knows).

The guys in BEYOND should have been proud as I rank this along side Nuclear Assault's debut album as one of the best classic thrash metal releases ever.

See...you don't need money, sometimes all you need is HEART & SOUL put into it.

RoadRash 2015 ROADRASH Demo

I was looking at the Hard N Heavy page, and seen this band said to be added to their label.
Good effort, very 1980s-sounding. Is it me or are more bands these days going for less of the typical thrash metal guitar sound, and more for fast heavy metal/speed metal ? A LOT of underground South American metal  bands have been doing it for awhile now.

RoadRash Cassettes maybe sold out from the band, write Inti to ask if he's re-releasing them?

Cheers to my friend in Brampton for copying this for me

(Any of the the band members and friends of the band I posted to on facebook would not rip and upload, or offer to tapetrade a copy...it was a fluke that I got this. Thanks Steve!)

AFTER THIS demo tape, the band jumped on the alternative metal bandwagon in the early 1990s. Blah.
At least they released a decent demo if you like NWOBHM and METALLICA - AJFA era.

VERY RARE TORONTO METAL MASSACRE 1 & 2 EVENT SHIRTS

well, IF you can afford it, here are legitimate, original t-shirts from the two metal concerts that underground metal maniacs attended in the 1980s.

The seller also sells video footage from those concerts (as well as other 1980s Toronto thrash metal concerts), but I don't se t listed in his ebay store.

Way, way back in March 1988, a Toronto fanzine, S.O.D. SCROLLS OF DOOM issue #2 or #3, had a page long biography on Sepultura from its earliest beginnings. I wish I still owned a copy.

The band history (which I doubt hardly any other fanzines knew the full background yet at that point), was written by Rob Raffan, Sepultura's very first bass player, who had moved from Brazil, to Canada (Toronto).
About 5 or 7 years ago, a guy who replaced Rob in Entropy, did not believe it, and laughed when I said that Rob was pals with Max.

Raffan did majorly assist a couple of local guys to get an interview with Max,
back on the 'New Titans of The Block Tour' (?), in 1990 or 1991 (Sick of it  All, Nuclear Assault, Napalm Death, Sepultura).
It was printed in one of the first issues of DOOMHAULED (another fanzine copy I am missing).

The photo is taken of a new 700+ page book,"Louder Than Hell-The Definitive Oral History of Metal" By Wiederhorn, Jon - 2013 ,
with Max acknowledging Raffan, and exactly something Rob wrote in '88, such as the drummer's cymbal was nailed on top of a broom handle!
The band was really broke, really poor,  when they first started, but scrounged up any equipment they could, as they were metal maniacs just dying to do something musically themselves.

I found Rob through googlesearch about 20 years since I seen him last,
and was not surprised he became an FM radio dj of a college/university type metal show, similar to what we listened to back in the mid-late 1980s ! ---
Brian Tailor's Aggressive Rock / Argh Rock Hour.  Rob now was the co-host with a younger metalhead chick (who I think lived with him / was his girlfriend, in Burnaby, B.C.) ?

Underground Metal Massacre Radio is not on the current CJSF schedule for July 2015...
I haven't tuned in for many years, so no idea when it went off the air.

I could message him and ask what happened, but then I would have to start  a facebook account under my name again, and I am not going to do that.
Plus, he hasn't posted since 2013.

Was kind of ticked off after I sent physical "snail mail" to him at the radio station, but he didn't get it.

Then to his home twice, and it was returned back to me twice, by Canada-Post saying he didn't live there!

Rob had no idea why this was happening, so I gave up.

It must have been fate, I took it as a sign that it meant to not bother with trying to send him any music or my fanzine...already spent a lot on stamps, and they were marked up too much, so I couldn't use them a third time.

anyways...
I have a bunch of Underground Metal Massacre Radio shows I downloaded off the TUNEIN site, so yeah, could upload those, if I felt like it.

But I don't right now.

Don't know Rob agreed to it,  but his photo / info is on a site that jerks always have to post every detail they can dig up, even if a person didn't want to be on there --
they probably lifted Rob's photo from his facebook profile without asking him...
so,
if they can do it and it's been there awhile, probably no harm  to post here too...
